Essential oils on the belly button, is it effective?

Recently I have been looking into natural ways to fix my knee problem. A few years back I twisted it very badly and ever since the pain comes and goes. I came across a very interesting article on a French website that explained in full detail how the body can heal itself through the belly button. I was flabbergasted and of course had to try this for myself. And now, yes people, I am putting essential oils on the belly button every day. Still flabbergasted! But I can say this works incredibly well for me and for many others as far as my information goes.

So… let me tell you all about it!

Essential Oils on the Belly Button explained

According to science, the first part created in the unborn after conception is the navel. After its creation, it attaches to the placenta of the mother through the umbilical cord.

In traditional Ayurvedic Medicine there is a belief that right behind the navel lies a gland named Pechoti that is formed in the womb at the end of the umbilical cord.

This is the reason why we have more than 72.000 veins connected to our navel, making it the focal point of our body. The Pechoti method therefor is a technique where oils are applied in and around the belly button to relieve many types of physical and mental problems, to name a few :

  • Dry eyes
  • Poor eyesight
  • Pancreas problems
  • Chapped heels and lips
  • Facial complexion problems
  • Knee pain,
  • Bloodcirculation problems
  • Stress and anxiety
  • Arthritis pain
  • Dry skin
  • Hair loss and hair vitality problems

Which Essential oils to use on the Belly Button

First of all always make sure you use a carrier oil when you want to use essential oils on your skin, never apply the essential oil directly as it can cause severe skin irritation. There are many types of essential oils all with their own range of benefits, but here today I will focus on the oils that I have used myself and found beneficial to my personal needs.

However I will just put in a small list of beneficial oils just to give you some extra information:

  • CBD oil for pain or tension
  • Tea tree oil for skin irritation and inflammation
  • Peppermint oil for nausea and gut pain
  • Neem oil for skin or hair health
  • Ginger oil for nausea and inflammation
  • Lavender oil for deep relaxation
  • Magnesium oil for muscle repair and better sleep

If you google your particular problem in relation to essential oil, you will certainly find the right one for you.

Great carrier oils:

Castor oil

Coconut oil

Moringa oil

Olive oil

Jojoba oil

Sweet almond oil

Avocado oil

Apricot oil

Various problems and the oils that can relieve them

Is the Pechoti technique suitable for children?

When a baby has a stomach ache, normally it’s very soothing and calming to softly massage the baby’s belly with baby massage oil. The Pechoti method can be used for children, but as essential oils are not always safe to use on children it is best to just use 1 or 2 drops of a carrier oil like coconut oil or argan oil and leave the essential oil out entirely. Also, never put any oil on newborn’s umbilical stump, as this is actually a healing wound that needs to stay free from possible infections. The Pechoti method has been known to reduce fever symptoms in children, but as always never take any risks with the health and safety of your child and seek the help of your pediatrician immediately should your child fall ill.

The scientific side and the spiritual side

After all this you would probably like to know if there is a scientific proof of the actual existence of the Pechoti gland. Well, shocker, apparently not. But if you are like me, and you are open for alternative medicine and you have experienced relief and even certain symptoms disappearing after the use of oils or other herbal remedies then there is absolutely no reason why you would not try the oil on your belly button technique I think. According to Ayurveda our navel can sense which veins are dry and will guide the oil to them to open them…

You can keep a small dropper bottle with the necessary essential oil mixed with a carrier oil next to your bed and place a few drops on your belly button and massage it before you go to bed. This will make pouring convenient and prevent accidental spills.

A good thing to keep in mind is that, in the case of any illness or ache or pain, the Pechoti method can do a lot of good or it might not work at all for you as we are all different. How to get rid of any health problem also depends on many other factors in our lives such as diet, stress factors, smoking, drinking alcohol etc. etc. So natural ways to heal our body might not work unless we take into account we have to balance our lifestyle as a whole to make ourselves feel better and get in better shape.

So if Pechoti for example does nothing for you [yet] than try to look into healthier eating habits and or more exercise, or other factors that are weighing you down mentally and or physically. There lies a start in making a change for the better.
